How to Measure Chest Size

For the closest comparison, measure your chest unflexed with a flexible tape on bare skin or light clothing. Stand normally with your arms relaxed at your sides. Run the tape around your chest at nipple level and across the shoulder blades, keep it horizontal and snug without compressing the skin, and read it after a normal exhale. Use the same method each time. Community measurements are self-reported, so individual technique may vary.

Should I measure my chest flexed or relaxed?

Use a relaxed, unflexed chest measurement. Do not flex your chest, flare your lats or deliberately expand your rib cage.

Is chest size the same as chest width or clothing size?

No. It is the distance around the whole torso at chest level, not a straight-line width or garment measurement. It can include chest and back muscle, breast tissue, body fat and frame size.
